LIGHTS UP on an empty stage. Spotlight on center stage where a pistol lies. Dark in the midst of so much light. MAN enters stage left and walks quickly to center. Sees gun. Stops. walks away. Stops. Turns slowly to look back. Walks around the gun in a circle, never stepping into the spotlight. Stops after as many steps feels necessary, but on the opposite side of the stage. Walks towards stage right and almost exits. stops. Takes three breaths. Stillness. Runs as fast as possible to center stage, picks up gun, places against temple and fires before he can change his mind. Drops in a heap. LIGHTS OUT.
P.S. I'm not normally this morbid (my first play was rather dark, and so is my one for august 2nd). Jon actually gave me the idea for this. He turned to me a said, "you should write a play where a guy walks onstage and shoots himself." So I did.
That's it! No dialogue? Wow! Definitely interesting... This would make an awesome intro to a longer play if you ever want to expand it :-)
